DIY Grow Bags
Something a bit different that may be of interest. We have horses, there's obvious things about horses, hay, fed bags and manure! Getting rid of the feed bags is a pain as they are plastic, some are paper. Well, I've ben thinking of using them as grow bags. This time of year, you can end up with old hay that they won't eat, so that's compost material. There's always a load of manure to clear from the stables, so I thought, make grow bags!
The idea being the plastic feed bag is lined with a paper one that will rot dow. Make a few holes in the bottom of the plastic bag fro drainage. he grow bags are easy to move around and I'm thinking about growing herbs etc. So able to keep a few near the back door. The bottom of the bags are packed tight with old hay (Which is of course grass, so lawn mower clippings will do the same job.
The manure will go on top. Ideal being to build, fill and store these over the Winter to rot down and the obvious manure based pee, will drain through.
I think these will be great for growing potatoes in as well as other softer veg, the great idea being
they are easy to move round. Contents can be emptied onto the compost heap after and the then used plastic bags, either burnt or got rid of. It's the portability idea I like as they should be fairly low maintenance. I was thinking of using one tone grab bags, these seem more manageable.
